Alberta's government is pleased to announce the next intake of the Northern and Regional Economic Development Program, which will provide up to $3 million in the 2023-24 fiscal year to support community-driven projects that promote regional economic development and diversification.
To support Alberta’s growing economic momentum, projects must focus on one or more of the following areas:
- Investing in economic development-enabling infrastructure
- Delivering business supports
- Supporting labour force attraction and retention
- Enhancing tourism planning, capacity building and infrastructure
- Building capacity for economic development
Examples of eligible projects include revitalizing central business districts, creating a new economic development officer role within a municipality or organization, improving wayfinding signage to direct shoppers or tourists, developing strategies to address local labour force gaps, and improving internet connectivity in commercial areas.
Alberta municipalities and non-profit organizations whose primary purpose is to support economic development can apply for up to 50 per cent support of eligible project costs. Indigenous communities, including First Nations or Metis Settlements, can apply for up to 75 per cent support of eligible project costs.
Apply by December 20 to receive up to $200,000 to support your project.
